Description
The ex Australian Navy frigate HMAS Adelaide was stripped and sunk as a dive wreck in April 2011. In the 1st year, the growth of marine life has been fantastic. She has become in this short time a true artificial reef.
It is a marine reserve and fishing is prohibited within 150m. The fish life is prolific
The top deck was originally at 18m but through this first year she has settled into the sand and the top deck is now 22m.
The sand around the wreck is 35m but inside down at the lowest deck it is 39m
Inside the wreck there are many narrow companionways to swim along and many internal features of the ship have been left in place.
It is a first class dive and without doubt the best dive within a short drive
(just over 1hour) from Sydney. The big plus is that it is only 5 mins by boat from Terrigal Haven and you can spend your surface interval back at the dive centre.
Access to the site is by boat from Terrigal Haven. There are a number of moorings on the wreck for commercial boats, private boats and club boats. A permit must be obtained to use these moorings by contacting www.visitcentralcoast.com.au
There are however two companies which have exclusive use of two of these moorings and run dives every day of the week from Terrigal Haven, weather permiting.
